Welcome

I wanted this blog to be about my family's experience with my son's Type 1 Diabetes. My family is more than just diabetes, but I want this blog to be focused on how it affects our family. I hope other T1D parents find it helpful, and that my family and friends find it informative.

Bad Romance

In my early twenties I had a "bad romance."  My relationship with D is similar in a way...

While we were dating I would only make time to see friends when I was mad and upset with my boyfriend.  Therefor the only things my friends ever heard about this guy was what a jerk he was!  When I was head over heels and happy, I was to wrapped up in him to make time for friends.  So they never got to hear the good stuff.  We've all been there done that right?

I think the blog is becoming more and more my "friend for when I am mad at D."  The way I write it reads like every moment of every day I am sad and depressed and hating our new normal.

Well... don't get me wrong... I am sad and probably a bit depressed and definitely hating the new normal.  But our lives have LOTS of good in it too.  But when I am busy with the happy good stuff I am not blogging.  So you wouldn't know it.

So I know I have scared a lot of you off lately.  Please come back.  I promise to include more good blog posts too.  I am still going to post the bad, the raw emotional scary bad... but I will make time for the wonderful stuff too.

Stay tuned...

  1. Love it! So true. So often all I have to share about my life these days are the horrors of what we face on a day to day basis. Its hard to remember to focus on the good. I look forward to reading some of the good that you have to share. :)

  2. I know how you feel! Although I haven't noticed negativity in your posts, probably because I can relate. It is really hard not to focus on the negative sometimes.

  3. Hi Jaime:

Just wrote two paragraphs and went to preview with Google and it was gone. I've never posted to Blogger before, but Google shouldn't have made it disappear. I guess I need to copy it to Notepad as a backup. So much for technology. The second time around is never as good as the original content from my experience.

Ever since you first posted on Facebook about this horrible disease, I've wanted to write to you or talk to you on the phone. I know that you've spent countless hours doing your own research and extracting information so that you are fully informed in order to make the necessary decisions for your family.

Patty did an enormous amount of research regarding health during her struggle with cancer. She was all over the web reading and then calling people all over the states getting opinions from others in her search for a cure. Patty had practiced homeopathy for 30 years and she was changing remedies every two weeks or more often with the advice of her physician.

I had been juicing since the early 90s and then Patty took it up a level and it became part of our daily consumption and that involved getting a slow speed juicer. She had connected with Hallelujah Acres and used a couple of their products in our juicing routine.

Patty had been receiving HA News and then they went on a subscription basis for a paper one delivered. I like having one in my hand, so I am getting a year for only $25.00. The online version is the same and is FREE. And you can sign up for FREE online programs and receive a daily email.

If after you've read a lot online, you may want to buy The Hallelujah Diet book, but again, I think it is all online for FREE. Headed toward a vegan diet can change your whole family's life and I wouldn't be surprised if your son was able to stop all meds in time. This new life style is about regaining your health and there is nothing more important than having good health. Even if you adopted part of this new life style, you'd notice a difference.

I posted something online several hours ago when a dear friend of mine from church mentioned she was adopting a more raw diet. I also sent a link to one of my daughter's and her husband last night and a client that I leased a home to almost a year ago. Please watch this over an hour video and don't miss a second. You can pause the recording if necessary. I was shocked by the information that was revealed.

So many foods have been genetically modified (GMO) and that is causing so many illnesses and allergies. Roundup is a chemical to kill insects and they've included it in the corn seed, so the farmers no longer have to spray their crops. Roundup is inside of our bodies too if we have been consuming those products.

California has been trying to force food suppliers to label everything that is a GMO. Trying again to get it on the ballot. The public is unaware of many foods that do have GMOs.

Take your time and digest the tons of free and informative information on the HA web site.

I've been praying for your family ever since you first posted about H1. It was your most recent post on FB regarding the allergic reaction to the pump that nudged me.

My love to you and your precious family.

    1. Doug, first let me say thank you for caring about my family. I am so fortunate to have so many people that keep us in their prayers. I want you to know that it means a lot to me that you read my posts and that you took the time to share with me something you are very passionate about.

Second, I agree that food in America is over processed and genetically engineered to a point that it is making the country sick.

Third, Our family could do MANY things to be a healthier family. We have a juicer, I should make a bigger effort to make that part of our lives again. I do believe you when you say that going vegan could be a great health decision for my family. I am not going to lie to you though and say I will look into it. I am just not ready to make that kind of change.

Lastly, Type 1 diabetes has been around for hundreds of years. Before our food was the junk it is today, with chemicals and all that garbage. Tiny babies that consume nothing but breast milk are diagnosed with Type 1. Plenty Vegans also have type 1. This is not a disease that can be treated with ANY way of eating. Before insulin, Type 1 diabetes was a death sentence. The ONLY way for any type 1 diabetic to survive is with insulin. A diet of nothing but plants will still contain carbohydrates, a source of fuel that requires insulin for the body to use it. Johnny's body will never make insulin again, unlike a type 2 diabetic. If I stopped feeding Johnny carbs, then his body would use protien the same way... and guess what... he would need insulin. Crazy right? I HAD to correct you on this because I wouldn't want a newly diagnosed person to read your comment and try to come off insulin. That is how many diabetics die, they were told do "X" and you wont need insulin. Well just like the hundrends of years before now, if you don't have insulin you will die.
